The family is sad to announce the passing of Ruth Johnson at the age of 76. Predeceased by her parents Charles and Elsie (Tuomala) Johnson. Survived by her brother Richard and wife Kathy (Maki) Johnson, nieces Kim Leclair, Sheri Johnson (Paul) and nephew Marty Johnson (Julie). Loved by her great nieces Amber Leclair, Amanda Leclair (Ross), Bethany Purdon, Lara Purdon and Holly Purdon. Greatly missed by her loving friends Paulette and Bill Bromilow (London) and special nephews Blair (Natalie) Morris, Todd (Sandra) Morris. Also known as Auntie to Todd and Sandra’s children Everson and Isla. Ruth was a great lover of animals especially to her special four-legged friend Cayce. Ruth was an accomplished musician that shared her talents with her students teaching for over 30 years at Prom Music, Progressive Music and Laurentian University. She was Canadian Accordion Champion and performed across the United States and Canada.  She was also an adjudicator for many music festivals in North America. She will be remembered as a very special aunt with plenty of wisdom and love to share. At Ruth’s request there will be no service.  Donations can be made in her name to the SPCA.

3 Condolences

  1. Ruth was a terrific colleague and friend to me in our days teaching at the Huntington Conservatory and Laurentian University before she moved from Sudbury. She was one of the best piano teachers that the city ever had. I am saddened and shocked by her passing and send sincerest condolences to her family and friends.

  3. It saddens me to have read Ruth’s obituary in The Sudbury Star. Like a good Finnish girl, I took accordion lessons as a child and Ruth was one of my instructors at Prom Music. She was so talented, so kind, and such a wonderful teacher . . . even when I hadn’t done my practising for the week! I send sincere condolences to her family and friends.
