In loving memory Fred Harju, 80 years who passed away with his family by his side on Friday, May 27, 2016 at Health Sciences North. Beloved husband of Greta (Hallzon) Harju. Loving father of Erik. Born in Sudbury, he was the son of the late Urho and Aune (Tapper) Harju. Cherished brother of Julia Lahti (Eugene “Gene” - predeceased) and Henry (Joanna). Dear brother-in-law of Annika Uunila (Sakari) and Marit St. Germaine. Special uncle of many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by family, friends and those who knew and loved him. Fred was very athletic in his teenage years excelling in track and field and was a skilled cross-country skier, as well as dancer, earning him the nickname the Fred Astaire of Beaver Lake. He began his career as a barber in Toronto, also worked as a lumberjack and barber in B.C. . Returned to Ontario to work in carpentry, construction and became the unofficial barber of Beaver Lake. A Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held at the Beaver Lake Sports and Cultural Club on Saturday, June 18, 2016 between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00p.m.
