Gagnon, Gerald Robert

It is with great sorrow that the family announces the sudden death of Gerald Robert Gagnon on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Health Sciences North. Dear son of the late Frank and Edna Gagnon. Beloved husband of the late Jacqueline (nee Hall). Survived by his loving children Jeff, Sherri Lee, Stephen (Sultana), Frank and Robert (Lise). Cherished grandfather of Rachael, Joshua, Alex, Chantal, Josee, Riley, Robert, Stephen, Tyler, Sierra and great grandfather of Watson, Ben and Mia. Eldest brother of Ferdinand (Marlene) both predeceased, Nancy (Leo) Beaulac both predeceased, Donny (Donna), Jackie (Jack) Rosenhek, Kenny (Germaine), Cecile, Michael and Theresa (Bob) Gordon. Dearly missed by his compassionate and caring friend Lorraine Green as well as his extended family and countless friends he’s made over his lifetime. His big bright smile and unconditional love for all who knew him will be missed by many. Gerry will always be celebrated as a man who worked hard and loved harder, who lived fully, gave freely and who inspired others to do the same. Men like him made a difference everyday. He was born in Spanish, ON and started his working career at a very young age. He will always be fondly remembered as the “Creative Native”, his natural talent for trades of various industries allowed him to contribute not only to his employers, but to the community as a whole. One could say he officially semi-retired from the C.N. shops in Capreol in 1995. His volunteer work included the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Peace Church and the Caruso Golden Age Club (Executive member). Gerry loved to be on the road visiting family and friends. He made regular stops to the hospital and senior residences to visit family, friends and strangers alike. He was an avid golfer, curler and loved to read, do crossword puzzles and play crib. All would agree that he could polish a dance floor like nobody’s business. Gerry enjoyed playing piano, banjo, guitar, accordion and harmonica to name a few. At Gerry’s request, there will be no visitation. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church in Capreol with a Celebration of Life to follow. Donations to the Bread and Roses Foodbank - United Church in Capreol would be greatly appreciated.

  1. I had the opportunity to work and learn the welding trade with Gerry at Moose Mountain Mine for several years. He was a true inspiration not only to me but to our entire welding department. My condolences go out to his entire family. I am a better person for knowing Gerry. May God Bless.

  2. Our condolences. Gerry was a great man. We had the fortune of crossing paths at Kukagami in ’83 and from then on he was always a friend who was there to share his talents, skills and friendship. He always made that extra effort to keep in touch. We were very lucky to have Gerry share some of his life with us.
