Fortin, Marcel Joseph Noel

December 21, 1931-February 14, 2024

Marcel passed peacefully at the age of 92 at Health Science North, on Wednesday February 14, 2024. He was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario.

Marcel is predeceased by his parents Desire and Jeanne (nee Pilon) Fortin, and his sister Simone (Fortin) Deredin.

Marcel is survived by nephews, Paul Deredin (Karen), Rick Deredin (Lee Dow), and niece Rebecca Yamusah (Fred predeceased).

Marcel worked as a labourer for Frazer Bruce which was a contracting company for Inco, also part of the Inco Club Bowling League.

Starting at an early age he was taught to paint by his uncle. He would take his dog on long rides and take pictures of scenery and go home and put brush to canvas.

In the 60s Marcel became an avid wrestler for 11 years travelling the world to compete.

Marcel was a long-time resident of Finlandia Village. He fondly called the staff his family and Finlandia his home.

While living at Finlandia he would paint three pictures per month. Many residents have his art hanging on their walls. He also painted pieces for the staff which they have hanging in their offices.

Marcel participated in an Art Exhibition at Art Gallery of Sudbury for one month in 2019.

A private burial will be held at a later date.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff and PSWs of Finlandia for their care and compassion while Marcel was a resident.

In lieu of flowers donations can me made to Finlandia Village SISU Foundation.
