Foehr, Wolfgang

It is with great sadness the family of Wolfgang Foehr announces his passing after a brief illness at Health Sciences North on Friday, April 21, 2017. Wolfgang was a well known and active member of his adopted community here in Hanmer. A long-time Mason and Kinsmen, his contribution to the local industry and region were welcome and far reaching, twice voted citizen of the year. He left his German homeland to settle in Northern Ontario in 1958 where he met and married fellow expatriate Vera Weimann. They successfully raised a family of four children who happily spent their formative years in the Greater Sudbury area. Wolfie had a productive career with INCO where he managed maintenance. His training as a draftsman and designer were put to good use in the construction of several local buildings notably the Hanmer Arena and Medical Centre. He was involved directly in similar designs for local school boards, local businesses as well as numerous residences. We have lost a productive and valuable member of our community. A man whose efforts are recognized and are an example for others to respect and emulate. He is survived by his wife Vera, son Michael, daughters Christel, Sandy and Connie, each of whom have darling children and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, all will miss him dearly. A special thank you note to acknowledge the kind and considerate staff on floor 5 South at Health Sciences North where he spent his last days. Their careful and heartfelt attention was much appreciated by a grateful family. As per his wishes their will be no visitation or service.
