In Loving Memory of Jekabs (Jake) 95 years, who died peacefully on Monday, January 14, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Center, Sudbury. Beloved wife of 58 years to Patricia Anne (nee Cowley). Jekabs loved to travel with his wife Patricia, including going to Costa Rica at 94 years of age. He was an avid gardener, growing an abundance of fruits and vegetables up to this past fall. In his senior years Jekabs belonged to the Capreol Cross Country Ski Club, competing as the top skier of the year taking the prize in his late 80’s (1500 km). Jekabs belonged to the Latvian Society of Canada, Sudbury Branch, retiring from the presidency only 1 year ago. A member and avid supporter of St Mark’s United Church in Sudbury for over 50 years, Jekabs volunteered in many ways over the years. 2. Aivars Dzilums (Deb) of Sault Ste Marie— so sorry to hear of your Father’s passing. I’m sure your children, Christopher and Marissa and your 4 grandchildren will miss not knowing their Grandfather/Great Grandfather better, but will think fondly of him just the same. RIP Jack.

  4. A well-lived, full of days
Posted by The Rev. Dr. John Mathew (former minister/friend) On Wednesday, January 16, 2019
In my 45 years of ministry in Canada, Scotland and New Zealand, Jake Dzilums stands out as a self-effacing albeit an exceptionally dedicated and treasured member of the church and community with his extraordinary energy, enthralling enthusiasm and composed leadership in getting things done on time. A judiciously gifted man of steel, Jake preferred a pragmatic “walk the walk” outlook in life. Thank God for Jake’s well-lived life ‘full of days”(Job 42:17).
