Deredin, Raymond B.

June 20, 1933 – March 16, 2022

The family announces with sorrow Ray’s peaceful passing at St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at the age of 88 years.

Predeceased by his parents, Jean Wilbur Deredin and Alma O’Kane, sisters Mary Martin, and Catherine Trevors, and brother Wilbur. Predeceased by his beloved wife Simone (nee Fortin). Survived by his sons Paul (Karen) and Rick (Lee Dow), daughter Rebecca Yamusah (Fred, predeceased), seven grandchildren (Curtis, Phil, Matt, Kyle, RaeAnna, Elizabeth, Alandria) and nine great-grandchildren. Brother of Louis Galliah (Paula) and Dolores Adams/McDermaid (Billy, predeceased).

Ray was born in Chatham, New Brunswick and raised in Miramichi, New Brunswick. At the age of 17 he moved to Sudbury, Ontario and met the love of his life Simone (nee Fortin). He started his career at INCO and worked there until the age of 50. In his retirement years, he and Simone travelled often including visits to his family in New Brunswick. Ray was an avid golfer and enjoyed gardening. He loved watching the Toronto Blue Jays.

The family would like to thank Dr. Presenza, Patricia, Tammy-Lynn Wilcox and the staff at Finlandia for their continuing compassion and care. Also the staff at St.Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre for their professional passionate care as he transitioned.

As per Ray’s request there will be no visitation or funeral. A Private Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to Finlandia Village.

  2. So very sorry to hear of the passing of Uncle Raymond. Even though our lives never led us to cross paths often in his life, there were a few journeys he made to New Brunswick where he took the time for visits with our Dad Wilbur. As young nieces and nephews we were usually apprehensive before his visit since we never knew what to expect. He always had a powerful presence when he walked in the door. There was always some stories, kidding and laughter. We know our Dad loved him dearly, even though the years and miles stretched between them.
