Byrnes, Reginald Roman

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Health Sciences North at the age of 86.

Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Johanna (nee Madigan) Byrnes. Beloved Husband for 62 years to Lorraine (nee Belanger). Loving Father of Barry (Judith), Kevin, Kenneth and Michael (Rachel). Proud Papa of Tyler (Tessa), Thomas, Tianna, Megan, Justin (Caitlin), Phalen, Britney, Cole and Braeden. Cherished Great Papa to Abel, Ryan, and Kingston. Dear Brother of Clemmy, predeceased (Dorothy), John (Gloria, predeceased), Terry (Sylvia), Jacqualine (Jim), both predeceased, Martin (Beverly), James (Jeannie), Noreen (Stephen, predeceased, Karl), Patricia (Ed) and Michael, predeceased (Sylvia, Marnie). Reginald will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.

Reginald worked at CN Rail for 30 years. Before that, he worked as a Police Officer in Elliott Lake for 10 years. Reg was also a well-respected as a Local Chairman of the United Transportation Union Local #1298 for 17 years. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered for his cheery disposition. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed many activities including hunting and fishing, but his favorite time was spending time with his beloved family, especially at the camp. Reginald was originally from Latchford Bridge, ON and always referred to that special place as “home”.   

As per Reginald’s wishes cremation has taken place. A Celebration of his Life will be announced at a later date.

If desired, donations may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation and would be appreciated by his family.

  1. Condolences 💐 to the Byrnes family, we meet Reg and Lorraine 13 years ago and what wonderful people. Greg and Reg shared many stories mostly hockey ones. We’re definitely going to miss seeing him in the yard either pulling weeds or mowing the lawn and coming over to chat. You’re in a better place where there is no more suffering.

  3. Sorry for your loss, the Byrnes family. My last memory of Uncle Reg was him cooking in the camp and thankfully he did come back that year. So we had a shot of apple pie. Then 5 minutes after he said that’s good Terry u got any more ❣️❣️Rip will miss you.

    Words of condolence never seem enough when losing a loved one. The only words to express our Deepest Sympathy is to say we are so very sorry for your loss.   13. Our condolences to the family. Praying for God’s sustaining Grace to carry the family in this season of grief. Reg was an amazing friend and neighbour.
    I remember Reg asking if their music disturbed us. We told him only complaint we had was it wasn’t loud enough LOL. Reg’s taste in music was great (Shania Twain)

  15. I always remembered visiting Uncle Reg and Aunt Lorraine with Mom and Dad as a child and again as an adult: I remember one Easter, the Bunny had hidden eggs in the kitchen chandelier as I was amazed! We had great memories in Capreol and will cherish the time spent there.
