Buchanan, Margaret Anne

It is with deepest sorrow that our family announces the passing of Margaret Anne Buchanan (nee Gillis), born July 19, 1940, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at the age of 81.

She is survived by her children Nelson William Alexander “Andy” Bradley (April Lee Anne), Kari Joyce Bradley Vallee (Kevin), and Johanna Merrie (Joie) Switzer (Clayton). Loving Gran to Taylor Anne Bradley, Brian (Jack) Bradley, Cameron Vallee, step Gran to Ashley, Samantha, and Alicia, and a great Gran to Cali -Ann.

Margaret Anne was born in Baddeck, Cape Breton, NS, raised in Espanola, ON, and lived her adult life in Sudbury, ON. She was a wonderful Mum, Gran and friend to many.  She was a community activist, an environmental champion, and a supporter of women’s rights.  It was most fitting that she passed away on International Women’s Day.

Margaret Anne was proud of the education she gained at Laurentian University, while raising her 3 children. She obtained her H.B.Com., MBA, and finally her CMA designation.  She always encouraged people to further their education.

Over the years she was a member of the Sudbury Cape Breton Club, Order of the Eastern Star, she also sat on boards of the United Church, YWCA, Elizabeth Fry Society, and more. She worked at numerous jobs, moving on when she felt she had given what she could, and was ready for a new challenge.

She will be missed and forever remembered.

A Celebration of Margaret Anne’s Life will be held at a later date.

5 Condolences

  1. My deepest condolences to the family. Margaret and I were friends for many years. We both attended St. Stephen’s on the Hill United Church and shared in many congregational experiences. Margaret was a joy to be around with her quick wit and her ability to make you think about deeper issues concerning women’s rights and the environment. She was a champion for all those on the fringe of society. She will be deeply missed. May her family find Peace and Comfort in the their shared memories.

  4. Marg and I grew up together in Espanola. We shared great times and often talked about how fortunate we all were to have that special small town experience. Over the last number of years we often had long telephone conversations and she always made me laugh. We talked about the current world situation and we both had high hopes for the future. I will miss her a lot. I know her skills will be put to use Over There. Enjoy your new adventures MA. To the family, my sincere condolences. She loved all of you so very much.
