Bissonette, Jeanne D’Arc “Jean”

It is with immense grief and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great Great Grandmother-Jeanne D’Arc (Jean) Bissonette- “Mama” at the tender age 99.  Surrounded by her family, Mama was given her heavenly wings at 9:43p.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2020.  She passed away peacefully at home where she wanted to be.  Mama leaves behind her 3 children, Beatrice Ahrbeck (Harold), Janet “Nan” Stewart (Eddie-predeceased) and Richard “Rick" (Corie) Bissonette; her 6 grand daughters, Kimmie, Debbie (John Laframboise), Natalie (Gord Matte), Corrie (Joe McCallion), Roberta Ahrbeck and Katie Bissonette; her 5 great grand children, Curtis Williamson (Miranda), Tayler Boyd (Brandon), Cassidy Williamson (Jean Yves), Kyla Boyd (Journey) and Elli Grant; her great great grand daughters, Aliyah and Kamari Boyd.  Mama was born to Deliah (Bonenfant) Fortin and Paul Fortin on April 17, 1921 in Foleyet, On.  She is predeceased by 2 sisters, Edna Grant (Earl) and Helene Lincez (Gaston) and 3 brothers, Armand, Edgar, Harvey Fortin.  Her mother passed away when she was a baby and she was fostered by Rosa and Napoleon Dupuis which gave her three stepsisters, Theresa Lepine, Elzire Charbonneau, Clara Bissonette and 2 stepbrothers, Donat and Hermas Dupuis. Mama was also very close to her in-laws, Jackie and Edgar Leger, Rita and Harry Vogt, Theresa and Gerry Fitzgerald and Leo Paul Bissonette.   Mama moved to Sudbury in 1942 where she found employment as a cook and worked at places like the Edelweiss, Gus’ lunch, Pioneer Manor, Fountain Blue and many other places.  Her career lasted 30 years where she was loved by clientele and fellow employees before she retired.  During those years she raised her 3 children as a single mother on meager earnings through some very trying times, but never once did her children do without.  As the matriarch of the family, she was loved and cherished greatly.  She was instantly loved and cherished by all who had the privilege of having met her.  Mama became a grandmother in 1964, a great grandmother in 1993, and a great great grandmother in 2018.  Mama will be missed by her family, friends, nieces, and nephews.  A Celebration of Life will be held on what would have been her 100th birthday- April 17, 2021 with close family and friends.

  3. What an amazing woman “Mama” was! To have reached 99 years and had great, great granchildren is such a wonderful gift. Kyla, I am sure you and your mom have many cherished memories that you will share with Aliyah and Kamari so they always remember her too. Such a nice idea to have the celebration of life on what would have been her 100th birthday. Condolences to all who loved her.
