Belanger, Michel “Mike” Joseph

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Michel “Mike” Joseph Belanger on Monday, September 16th, 2019 at the age of 69.  Cherished son of Adjutor and Mary Belanger (both predeceased).  Soul mate and beloved husband of 44 years to Patricia. He proudly lived his life through the joys and accomplishments of his children Mark (Heather) and Mary Lynn (Yves Poirier) and was a devoted “Gramps” to his grandchildren, Camden, Taylor, Madden and Hadleigh.  Brother to Madeleine (Bob), Gilles (Mariam) and Pierre (Delena).  Son in-law to Robert and Evelyn Nott (both predeceased).  He is survived by his extended parents Pat and Barb Mahon.  Brother in-law to Barb Nott, Linda (Ken predeceased) Lilley and Elizabeth (Bob) Hurly.  He will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.  Born and raised in Sudbury, Mike spent his career in education teaching French for over 30 years for the Sudbury Catholic School Board.  With his family, he found joy in teaching, coaching, travelling and loving life at his cottage on Fairbanks or golfing at the Idywylde Golf and Country Club. Mike loved his wife, adored his kids and found a new sense of purpose in his grandchildren. They brought joy to his bright blue eyes and kept his spirit alive.  He will be remembered for his generosity, his kind demeanour and for always telling a good joke to all those who knew him. In keeping with Mike’s wishes, no public funeral or visitation will occur.  In lieu of flowers, a donation in Mike’s memory to Parkinson Canada (Sudbury Support Group) would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Dear Pat, Mark and Mary Lynn:

I am saddened by this news.
I taught in the French Department at SCC with Mike. Not only did we share lesson plans and teaching strategies, but more importantly, we shared good conversation, laughter and friendship.
You, Mike and the other members of your family have been and will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
    In sincere sympathy
