Bartels, Laurie

Laurie Bartels, 46, Chelmsford, ON. passed away suddenly at his home February 13, 2019. He leaves behind his wife of 32 years Kim (nee Lefrancois), sons Darren (Mariah), Kody, Billy (Josee) and his beautiful grand kids William, Asher, Lexa and soon to come baby boy who were the light of his life, as well as Jake our dog, who never left his side. He is also survived, by his mother, brother, sister, mother in law, sister in law as well as their families. He was born in Minto, NB and moved to Ontario in 1990 at the age of 17 to become a first time Dad. Three sons later, he never wavered. He worked hard and supported his family, always putting them first. He instilled in his boys that life is not given to you and that you needed to work hard to get what you wanted. Laurie worked for Day Construction, Levack Division. He was a well liked and respected supervisor, co-worker, mentor and friend. He touched the lives of many with his wittiness and humor. Outside of work he loved camping and fishing. He was that guy whom many turned to for help and he was always there ready to lend a hand. As for us, his family, we want to say thank you for the husband, Dad and Pépère that you were. You showed us how to never give up, how to work hard, how to love with all you might and how truly important it is to stick together, especially in times like this. For this we are truly grateful. There will be no funeral and a Celebration of his life will be made at a later date. Life is not easy…Life is not fair…Life is what you make of it…Make it a good one!

  1. My sincere condolences to Laurie’s family.
I was blessed to work with Laurie at Day Construction
for many years. He was such a calm soul who
I’ve never seen get angry as long as I’ve known him.
The last memory I have of Laurie was when I was
conducting the Advanced Driver Improvement Program
and him and I were talking about family. I can tell you
that he loved and cared for his family so much.
He showed me pictures of his kids and wife. I’ll never
forget how proud he was of his family!
I asked Laurie how he kept his cool with such a stressful
job as a Supervisor. His answer was ” well Mike,
I do the best I can with what I have” I’ll never forget
that. God bless Laurie’s family with great strength to carry
on this journey. I know he will always be in your hearts
as he will be in ours as well.

  10. Laurie was a great coworker and an even better foreman. I can hardly believe that this great man left this world so soon. He always had a good joke and took a good joke too. I hold him in the highest regard as one of the best bosses I have ever had the pleasure to work for. Down to earth, fair and rarely ever lost his cool (unless the dumbass deserved it of course! Lol). My heart goes out to his family and closest friends as they have lost a great soul. Cheers Laurie!
