Vendramin, Lino J.

Lino John Vendramin 96 years old of Sudbury, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born on January 29, 1929, in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Lino was one of seven children born to Ernesto and Zelinda (née Fiorotto) Vendramin. Though he spent nearly his entire life in Sudbury, he always proudly identified himself as being from Copper Cliff, often sharing cherished stories of his childhood there.

Lino married Flora (Dabous) and together they shared 29 wonderful years before her passing in 1981. He was the loving father of Brian (Debbie Mullola, deceased), Bruce (Joanne Bignucolo), Jaymie (Sherry Kennedy), and Craig. He was the grandfather of 9 amazing grandchildren; Mark, Stacey (Jarrod Copeland), Hailey (Carter Drake), Jordan, Alex (Natalie Schryer), Courtney (Nathan Ouriach), Carlee (Eric Leishman), Ashley (Brawley Bernier), and Nickolas and great-grandfather to Ellie, Iris, Max, Ben, Zadie, and Robyn. Lino was a practicing Catholic who attended mass at Our Lady of Hope and in his later years would watch daily on television.

For more than 30 years, Lino owned and operated the House of Lino men’s wear store in downtown Sudbury. He took such immense pride in seeing his customers at events around town wearing clothing from his store. He loved traveling to places such as New York, Boston, Chicago, Toronto, and Montreal to bring the newest in men’s fashion to Sudbury. His favorite destination, however, was always Las Vegas, which he visited more than 20 times. After closing the store in 1979, he enjoyed semi-retirement, later becoming a familiar face as the Lead Starter at the Idylwylde Golf & Country Club where he kept golfers on pace, volunteered at charity events, shared laughs, and entertained the members with stories from his days in business.

Lino’s impact on the Sudbury community extended well beyond business. He was a founding member of the Montessori Club more than 60 years ago, serving as president during its 25th anniversary year. He contributed greatly to their fundraising efforts, helping to improve medical and educational resources across the city of Sudbury. He deeply cherished the friendship and comradery found at the annual curling bonspiels and bocce tournaments. In addition, he supported the Canadian Cancer Society, Catholic Charities, and other local causes.

A lifelong lover of music, Lino’s tastes ranged from the big bands of the 1930s and 40s to jazz, blues, and country. His favorites were Elvis Presley, Louis Prima, and Frank Sinatra whom he called the greatest singer to ever live.

He will be remembered for his wisdom, business sense, humor, and gift for storytelling. His love and influence will remain forever in the hearts of his family and friends.

A mass celebrating Lino’s life will be held Wednesday October 8th at 10:30am at Our Lady of Hope, Sudbury Ontario with a meal to follow.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the tireless caregivers at Extendicare Countryside for their kindness and compassion over the last 10 months. The family would like to profusely thank and acknowledge our brother Bruce Vendramin, whose many years of unwavering devotion and selfless care made him not only a loving son but also an advocate and a constant source of strength. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choosing in Lino’s name.
