McLeod, Maryln Olive (née Baker)

Maryln Olive McLeod was born on February 25, 1944, to Florence and Victor Baker (both Pre-deceased) in the small community of Copper Cliff to a large family with siblings Bill, Ron (Predeceased) wife Diane, Jane (Dick), Anne and Doreen (Doug).

After high school Maryln pursued a nursing career then transitioning to the general hospital as the assistant head nurse. It was a passion she loved and used in her daily life but did retire from nursing to do what she was born to love, being a mother to her three boys.

Maryln met the love of her life, William (Bill) McLeod and were married in 1966. They had three boys Todd (Catherine), Chris (Kelly), and Mark. They raised their boys in Sudbury attending numerous hockey events, skiing all over North America and many antics held at the family camp in Wanapitei. Their home was always the drop in for the boys and their friends- welcomed with opened arms.

The next love of her life were her grandchildren. Connor (Ivana), Morgan (Jonah), Ethan, Charlotte, Bree, Markus, and Carter. Having held a special unique relationship with every single one of them- baking while chatting or just relaxing on the swing discussing all of life’s problems- she was the one they went to.  The grandchildren meant the world to her.

Bill passed in 2021 and Maryln fought on to enjoy life- she was grateful to her sisters who would spend time with her and be the sounding board for whatever was going on in her life. With the loss of Bill, Maryln dove into her jewelry art, which was a passion that she was able to do until her last days.

In 2025 Maryln was diagnosed with Liver Cancer. She accepted her diagnosis and vowed to fight with a fierce tenacity and determination. Her sister Doreen accompanied her on the monthly treatment schedule – a time Maryln cherished and was so thankful for- Enjoying the connections that she established there.

In her final days, her smile brightened up the room. Maryln wanted her family and friends to know they were loved and not to be sad for her- she had lived an amazing life.

She will miss her little dog Squirt, Fridays with her dear friend Joceyln (and the girls), the fishing group whom she and Bill enjoyed many events with over the years, her sister-in-law Dale who has always been an amazing friend, and her large extended family with many nieces and nephews.

Many thanks to Dr. Emack, Dr. Larson, the team of nurses in the cancer center, everyone in the emergency department, the north tower 4th floor nurses/staff, Jordan for making sure her last hours were comfortable/caring, and last but not least Leo, who was a light in the darkest moments.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Steel Workers Hall, 66 Brady Street on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 12:00pm - 4:00pm.

"How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard."
