Kick stands up January 2, 1946.
On July 7, 2025 the deep rumble of a passionate heart was silenced.
His 79 year journey ended on his courageous terms, leaving those who loved him, worked with him, rode with him, or knew him, with heavy hearts. He was gentle, kind and hard working, with a sense of humour like no other even to the end. When asked by a doctor how long he was married, he replied, straight faced, 37 years, 6 hours, 15 minutes and 5 seconds. Ed took great satisfaction in saying he accomplished all of the things on his bucket list.
He was a loyal partner and soul mate to Eila (nee Kivinen). Loving brother to Bridget Sowieta (Joe), Kathy Kyrzakos (Pat Foran), and Janet Longford. Gentle, patient father to Kathie Noel (Wayne), Edward (Sona Narses), Dana Alexa Thomas, Scott Brown (Jenny), and Jeffrey Brown. Proud grandfather to Kirstan Noel (Adam Creor), Michaela Kyrzakos, Jordanna Noel (Damian Wojewodka), Ava Kyrzakos, Max Brown, Sarine Kyrzakos, and Isabel Kyrzakos. Special GG to Colton Creor. Predeceased by parents Nick Kyrzakos and Sarah Jane (nee Jean Langin), inlaws Pentti and Kaarina Kivinen, sister Barbara Pighin, and brother John Colin Pettigrew.
Thank you to all who brought joy, laughter, and love along his amazing journey. Special heartfelt thanks to Anne Butler and Kathy Kyrzakos who for the last 5 months supported us, especially with caring for Millie’s needs. Kudos to Dr. Christine Clendenning, our rock, Dr. Priola, the doctors and staff at the Northeast Cancer Centre, staff at Bayshore, the compassionate folks at Maison McCulloch Hospice and the empathetic care of Dr. St.Martin.
Donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
A Celebration of Ed’s Life will take place at the Lockerby Legion, 2200 Long Lake Road, on Saturday, August 9th, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. All are welcome to share their stories and memories about Ed.
“May the road rise up to meet you now, As stars begin to shine, And Irish winds blow soft and low Through groves of ancient pine. May heaven hold you in its arms, As loved ones bid farewell, While memories sweet as Irish rain In hearts forever dwell.
