Kanhai, Todd Marcus, M.Eng., P.Eng.

August 16, 1972 – August 31, 2025

With profound sadness, the family of Todd Marcus Kanhai announces his passing on August 31st, 2025, at the age of 53.

Born in Sudbury, Ontario, Todd was the cherished son of Tessa Kanhai and the late Ezekiel Kanhai. He was the loving husband and best friend of Karen Lefebvre Kanhai, with whom he shared 21 years of marriage, and the proud father of Zachary, the joy of his life. He is also deeply missed by his sisters Kerri Lusk (Phil) and Renata Burton (Sandy), his nephews Jared Lusk, Noah, Nicholas, and William Lefebvre Reed, his sister-in-law Lisa Lefebvre Reed, his parents-in-law Raymond and Viviane Lefebvre, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Todd earned a Master’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering and was a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), building a respected career defined by intelligence, dedication, and integrity. He was admired for his ability to see problems from every angle, offering thoughtful perspectives that guided colleagues, friends, and family alike.

Beyond his professional life, Todd found joy in the simple but profound pleasures that defined him. He loved the outdoors — fishing, camping, conversations around a campfire, and especially time spent on Manitoulin Island, his sanctuary. At home, he was a skilled cook who delighted in preparing meals for those he loved and never resisted dessert, especially anything chocolate. He never forgot a birthday, cherished family traditions, and was known for his thunderous laugh that could brighten any room.

Music was also woven into Todd’s life. In one of his final, tender moments, as Karen played Garth Brooks’ “If Tomorrow Never Comes”, Todd quietly sang along with her, his voice fragile but his devotion unshaken. Surrounded by family, the moment echoed back to their wedding 21 years earlier in the Dominican Republic, where loved ones gathered to witness their vows. His love for Karen was unwavering — a bond that endures still, carried on through memory and the lives he touched.

To his family — especially Zach and his nephews — Todd was a hero, often seen in his beloved Superman T-shirt, which they adored. For them, and for all who knew him, he will always be larger than life.

Todd’s legacy is one of love, wisdom, and strength. He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but for the way he made others feel valued, safe, and deeply cared for.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the HSN Northern Cancer Fund or the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Todd’s memory.

Rest in peace, my love, till we meet again.

  3. Karen and Zach we have never met, but I am Todd’s cousin, Susan. My brother Chris and I spent many a summer with Todd. He was the baby of the family who had those adorable chubby cheeks. He was always smiling and happy. I am so saddened that we lost touch over the years, but I remained apprised of his great accomplishments and his growing family over the years. Please accept my deepest most heartfelt condolences on your loss. He was taken way too soon. I wrote a poem for his late grandmother. I would like to share the last verse: my journey here is at an end, my suffering has gone away, for I have my eyes on the horizon and my Lord has led the way. Rest in peace Todd. All your cousins love you so much.
