It’s with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Marie Berthe Gerling (née Roy) at her beloved residence on November 24, 2025 at the age of 83 years. Predeceased by her husband Ronald Gerling. Beloved mother of Todd, Rodney and Deanna (John). Cherished grandmother of Christine, Emily, Nathan, Owen, Tanner and Brandon. Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Marie Berthe was an enthusiastic hockey supporter and a dedicated hockey mom, always graciously taking us boys to hockey practices and games, as well as accompanying Deanna to figure skating and dance classes. She cherished many family camping trips during the 1970s, continuing these traditions until her husband's passing in 2014 in Morgan and the Vermillion River. Our summers were often spent at camp, creating enduring childhood memories. She was known for her excellent cooking, particularly her spaghetti sauce, and enjoyed watching mystery television shows. This love of mystery TV was shared by all the children and grandchildren. Additionally, she had a passion for shopping. Marie Berthe cherished her long telephone conversations with her daughter Deanna. She maintained strong relationships with her neighbors and valued their companionship.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to her cousin Pierrette Morin, who was a dear friend. We also wish to thank Bayshore nurse Lynn Lavalee and the community care partners for their compassionate care and support provided to Mom.
In accordance with Marie Berthe’s wishes, there will be no formal service or Celebration of Life. The family will be making a $500 donation in her memory to Maison McCulloch Hospice and encourages others to consider donating as well.
