Fillator, Mary Ellen “Mimi”

It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Ellen Fillator on Sunday, April 27th, 2025, in the comfort of her home.

A devoted mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend at the timeless age of 81, just shy of her 82nd birthday. Mary Ellen was born on May 23rd, 1943.

Daughter of the late Violet May and William “Bill” Reeves, she leaves behind a legacy of caring and compassionate individuals.

She is survived by her treasured children, Jamie (Natalie) Fillator and Tracy (Richard) Joly. Three grandchildren Cooper (Talia) Joly, Joshua (Nicolette) Joly, and Jordan Joly who were her pride and joy. As well as her boisterous first great-granddaughter Ellie Joly and long-time family friend Cindy Moore.

It would be said that if written, a library could not fill the number of loving family and friends who should be mentioned as part of her life, but those who knew her also know she would have loved to sit and read every page.

Mary Ellen, known by many as Mimi, was a strong-willed, loving, and forever joyful soul. Turning any lost stranger into a welcomed guest in her home, she always held a soft spot for animals and her family.

Her love for gatherings, cooking, singing, crafting, A&W sit-down breakfasts, and watching action-packed movies will never be forgotten by those who knew her. Born and raised in Sudbury, she built a career as a Technical Support Programmer to provide for her children, and retired in 1995, after 30 years of dedicated service, from what was once then called INCO Limited (Vale).

Despite the challenges she faced, she embraced every moment this world had to offer. Mimi will forever be remembered for her selflessness, courage, and never-ending kindness.

The birds will continue to sing in her absence of the gifts her life brought to those around her.

As per Mary Ellen's request, there will be no visitation at this time. A family gathering in her honor will be held in the summer.

Donations can be made to The Greater Sudbury Animal Shelter in memory of her kind heart and love for bringing home strays.
