Dormer, Denis

In loving memory of Denis Dormer, 66 years, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family on Thursday, January 29th, 2026. Pre-deceased by his parents, Bill and Claire Dormer. Loving father to Jorden, Jessica, and Morgan, and a devoted father figure to Lawrence, Connor, and Garret. Cherished brother of Jeff and Sharon, Sheila, and Marion (Kyle). Amazing uncle to Cody (Sara), Taylor (Carolyn), Keegan (Haley), Kylee (Dustin), James (Josee), Sabrina, Meckenzie, Madison (John), Cameron, and Dakota. A good friend to more people than could ever be listed, and a proud soon-to-be grandfather.

Driven by a deep love of music, he began his career as a recording engineer at Manta Eastern and Eastern Sound. Denis later transitioned to a career in education, beginning with the Toronto District School Board, where he served as the Head of the Technology Department at West Hill Collegiate Institute. After returning to Sudbury, he spent most of his career as an educator at Chelmsford Valley District Composite School. Denis devoted 25 years to teaching. In addition, he dedicated 25 years as a volunteer Camp Manager at Camp Manitou, a role that brought him great fulfillment. Denis explored a wide range of trades throughout his life, developing an impressive breadth of technical skills and earning his reputation as a true jack of all trades. He enjoyed hockey, golf, baseball, curling, and skiing, and was also a talented drummer. Denis worked hard his whole life. His children were his greatest devotion, and he was always their first call in moments of need. His guidance, love, and quiet strength will be deeply missed.

A Funeral Mass to be held on Friday, February 13th, 2026 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, 39 Walford Road. The service will be live-streamed at the following link: Live Stream - Denis Dormer. In lieu of flowers, donations directly to Camp Manitou or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.  A celebration of life will be held in the early summer.

  1. I am so sorry for your loss of Denis. Denis was an extraordinarily dedicated father, nurturing independence in each of his daughters, while always keeping his home open to them through their transitions in life. He literally drove across Ontario and across Canada to bring his daughters home. My most vivid memory of Denis is at Morgan’s wedding. At a time when nerves can make it hard to speak, Denis calmly stepped forward and read Morgan’s speech for her, with the right balance of sincerity and humour. My son is blessed to have had you as his father-in-law.
My deepest condolences to Jorden, Jessica, Morgan and their extended family.
