Corkum, Moran Marcus

It is with great sadness, the family of Moran Marcus Corkum announce his passing on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Health Sciences North in Sudbury, ON with family at his side.

Predeceased by his parents Norman and Pauline Corkum and stepfather Jasper Rushton.  He was raised with his foster brother Vincent.  Moran is predeceased by his loving wife, Lorna Corkum (nee Godon).  Best dad ever to the late Melanie Corkum-Djama (Soulieman), Angela Uche of Sudbury and Jeffrey Corkum (Sara) of Sudbury.  Grandpa to Anissa, Myriam, Ali, Aden, Isaiah and Maxwell.   Brother to his many in-laws, uncle to many nieces and nephews and friend to all.

Moran was born October 3, 1942 in Middle LaHave, Nova Scotia.  He owes his first name to his father who named him after the captain on the tugboat he worked on.  After five years in the Air Force, he ended up in Sudbury to begin his new job at Inco’s Copper Cliff smelter.  After getting married and starting a family, he became a volunteer firefighter and soon after a professional firefighter in Sudbury.

He had many hobbies and talents of music, fishing, hunting, card playing, family taxi service, hockey and gardening.  Best of his summers were spent at Sand Bay fishing.  He is now seated at Lorna’s grand card table waiting to deal you in.  In memory of Moran, pick out a jig and go fishing with loved ones.

Special thanks for all the care provided by; Dr. Paul Gibb, Sara NP and City of Lakes Family Health Team, March of Dimes, 5 south and ARCC.  He had many angels in comfy shoes taking care of him.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place at a future date. He will be resting at Civic Memorial Cemetery in Sudbury, ON.

4 Condolences

  1. My dad, Orvie Wikiruk was good friends with Moran and often wondered how he was doing. Together they shared a few fishing trips with Bud, Harry, and Reg. Such great memories of that crew at Sand Bay. They must have had a lot of laughs over the years.
Please accept our sincere condolences. I will be sure to read Moran’s obituary to my dad.

P.S. My dad turns 94 on March 13. He still loves making people laugh.

  4. When I was welcomed into the Godon clan, Moran was among the quieter ones. He was always very kind and welcoming to Grace and me. I think I learned most about Moran from the tales my beloved Phil told me about their fishing shenanigans. My deepest condolences to you, Angie, Jeff and Sarah and all the grandchildren he so loved.
