August 23, 1932 – May 25, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Peter Cook, born on August 23, 1932 in Chatham New Brunswick, and raised in Redmondville. Joseph passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family.
Joseph was the beloved husband of Grace Cook (Cabel), his true love and partner in life for 68 wonderful years. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and family. He was a devoted father to six children: Randy Cook (predeceased), Timothy Cook (Nicole), Calvin Cook (Sally), Barry Cook (Paula), Candace Fortin (Gary), and Jody Cook (Courtney Kanerva).
He was a cherished grandfather to Mallory (Corey), Katie (Matt), Nicholas, Dean (Laura), Tayler (Elizabeth), Scott, Derek (Candace), Chris (Kayla), Brier (Kevin), Kyle (Mckenna), Hally, Drew, Tyler, Abby (David), Mitchell, and Justin (Laura). His love extended deeply to his great-grandchildren: Easton, Logan, Carter, Lucy, Sasha, Sophie, Talan, Harper, Teddy, and Emma. A special place in his heart was held for Sarah Cywink. Joseph was the loving brother of Teresa Connell (Bob) and Lillian Williston (Karl) and was predeceased by his sister Mary Dwyer (Alfred) and brother Raymond Cook (Gen).
In 1957, Joseph and Grace moved to Elliot Lake where he began his long and respected career with Denison Mines, working as a mill operator and retiring in 1990 as a mechanical general foreman after 33 years of dedicated service. Joseph was a man who lived fully and loved deeply. He cherished time spent with his family above all else. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and fishing, especially at his son Randy’s camp. His summers were happily spent visiting the Miramichi, and his winters in Florida, always with Grace at his side and surrounded by dear Florida friends.
He had a passion for cars and was often found in his garage, lending a skilled hand to repair vehicles for family and friends.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the wonderful nurses and PSWs at Bayshore, and in particular to Nurse Dextra, Nurse Lindsey, and PSW Michael, for their compassionate care and support.
A celebration of Joseph’s life will be held on Saturday, May 31st at 11:00 AM at Grace Christian Centre, 1 College Walk, Elliot Lake. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph’s memory may be made to the Maison McCulloch Hospice.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
My condolences to Grace and the Cook family. I remember the name Joe Cook from my childhood. He and Grace were friends of my parents. Marion and Clyde Wentzell. We lived in the same trailer park in Elliot Lake in the late 50’s early 60’s. My husband and I went to Elliot Lake one time and ended up at their home, greeted with open arms. May you R.I.P Joe
