November 21, 1933 – May 19, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kenneth Conlon, who passed away peacefully on Monday, May 19, 2025, at the age of 91 at Health Sciences North (HSN).
Born on November 21, 1933, in Coniston, Ken was the beloved son of Willard and Frances Conlon (both predeceased). He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Claire Conlon (née Barbe), with whom he shared a life full of love, family, and community.
Ken was a proud father to Blain (Lou-Anne), Perry (Tuija), and Monique (Kerry Brouse). He was a cherished Poppa to Shayne (Angie), Kyle (Destiny), Craig (Mel), Bradley (Nadine), and Brittany (Rob McKnight), and a special Poppa to his nine great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him great joy.
Predeceased by his sister Rita Modesto and brother Bernard (Theresa) Conlon, Ken is survived by his brother-in-law Nello Modesto, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends who held him dear.
Ken proudly worked for Inco/Vale as a Maintenance Foreman, retiring in 1990 after an impressive 42 years of dedicated service. A lifelong resident of Coniston, he was deeply involved in his community. He served for many years on the board of the Coniston Credit Union and was instrumental in the development of the Elmwood Seniors Apartment Building, serving as a board member through the 12-year journey that brought the building to life. Although Ken lived at Elmwood only briefly, it was meaningful for him to see the vision come to life and to experience the community there until his health declined.
For over 20 wonderful years, Ken and Claire would winter in Bonita Springs, Florida, where they met up with friends from their hometown and formed lasting friendships with many others. Their time there brought them countless cherished memories and relationships that Ken kept close throughout his life.
Ken was an avid outdoorsman and a passionate hunter. For 59 years, he was a proud member of the Winchester Hunt Club in Meldrum Bay, Manitoulin Island, a place he treasured deeply. He enjoyed his final hunt there at the remarkable age of 90. He also cherished countless day trips to Tyson Lake with his late brother Bernard and to lend a helping hand at his late sister Rita’s camp, creating memories that he often reminisced about with warmth and pride.
Known for his generosity and willingness to help others, Ken was a pillar of strength and kindness to those around him. His love for his family and friends was unwavering.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Knight, Dr. Mailloux, and Dr. Lam, as well as the compassionate nursing staff at St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre. A special thank you to the wonderful neighbors and friends at Elmwood who checked in on Ken and shared meals — your care and thoughtfulness meant the world to him and to us.
A Celebration of Ken’s Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Northern Cancer Foundation, the Alzheimer Society, or a charity of your choice.
Ken's legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty will live on in all who had the privilege to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Sincere condolences to his friends and family
