It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of “Jocko”, on Thursday, September 4, 2025, age 78. Born in Sudbury, he grew up in Azilda, by Whitewater Lake, which inspired him to explore his many talents in Art and Music.
Predeceased by our parents, Gérard and Lucille and our brother Robert. He had a deep love of art and music. His passion came alive when he picked up a paint brush, wrote music and played his guitar.
Jocko’s life was recently shared by his return to his roots, living by Whitewater Lake, where he was inspired by the beautiful views from his windows and playing his guitar and singing for his family.
He shared a special relationship with his nieces and nephews and loved watching his great nephews running around and playing outside.
He is survived by his siblings, Gisèle, Paul and Raymond, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends in the Music and Art communities.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the paramedics and staff of Health Sciences North for the care provided to Jocko.
At Jocko’s request, there will be no service.
Donations to Health Sciences North and the Art Gallery of Sudbury, would be appreciated.
Forever missed and in our hearts,
Lovingly, Gisèle ❤️xo

So Sad to see Jocko go.
He was very generous and supportive to me in the 70s inviting me to play in his Folk Band, play Piano on his Album and even sit in with Blackwood. He was a genuine Creative Person as a Singer-Songwriter, strong Bassist and Guitarist and a Unique Fine Arts Painter.
He was dedicated to the Spiritual Essence of Creativity and made his Contribution to Sudbury, Ontario, Canada and beyond. He has a strong Legacy.
I miss you Jocko and will continue to feel that way.
It was very good to have known you. Love to you and All who Love You.

I am very saddened of the loss of my friend of many, many, many years.
I would like to offer my condolences to his family and friends and to all who knew him.
If I may share some fond memories:
We had many good times and sing a longs out in our parking lot.
I will always remember especially the time the power went out across the city and province even many moons ago now, we had practically the entire building out in the parking lot singing along with Jocko while he played his guitar.
If there was ever a problem you could always count on Jocko to be checking things out and rendering assistance if needed.
He loved his garden in the front of the building.
He made a difference in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Goodbye and God bless my friend.
RIP Jocko

I’m so sad to hear of Jocko’s passing. We’re both in the NLFB orbit back in the early 1980’s, it was a great time for both of us. I remember him well as the young man in the photo.

Jocko was a true Renaissance man. He could do it all. A talented musician and a passionate artist.
A good caring friend to us both. We will miss him dearly.

My condolences to family and friends of Jocko. One of my last projects at the Art Gallery of Sudbury was working with him on his solo exhibition, Brightly Shining. Jocko was very generous with his time, and I like to think we became great friends throughout the process! He was a wealth of information and talent, wildly hilarious, and had a special way about him. He will be missed.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Jocko. We lived in the same building on Bloor Street back in the 80s and shared a love of music, wine and mostly art. He was one of my greatest supporters always taking time to check out my shows and give me words of encouragement. He will be missed. Godspeed my friend xx

My condolences to everyone who knew Jocko which would be many far and wide. We were friends since the 70’s when he would come over to the old farm house for a meal and to play ukulele with my young daughter Tara at the time to much laughter and joy. We kept in touch over the years through old fashioned letters and phone calls. When I moved back to the north we had a few lovely chats and impromptu lunches. Thank you Jocko for the many years for friendship, laughter and advice. Your artistic expressions will live after you and your voice will be sorely missed. Love, Shirley Anne

My deepest condolences to Jocko’s family. We lived across the street from each other for a while and had some great conversations. Would love to see a show featuring his artwork some day. A kind and gentle soul who went his own way. Rest in peace.

My condolences to the family. I knew Jocko in Yorkville in the 60’s, 70’s. After many years, and losing touch I tried to reach him through the Sudbury Art Gallery, but he never got my messages. Finally a friend on facebook gave me his current contact information. We talked for ages and caught up on old times. I am glad that I found him after all those years. RIP Jocko.

My deepest condolences go out to Jocko’s loved ones. I grew up hearing wonderful things about Jocko. My father (Danny Gaudet) was in a trio with Jocko and Rick Panas back in the 70s called Blackwood. Perhaps, the three of them are jamming together once again. Rest in paradise.
