Baelde, Clothilde (née Bergeron)

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Clothilde (Cloe) Baelde (née Bergeron) at the age of 91. She passed away peacefully with her sister Georgie and daughter Yvonne by her side on May 7th, 2025. Predeceased by her beloved husband Carl (Cornelis) Baelde, she is survived by her daughters Julie Baelde (Richard Séguin) and Yvonne Audette (Marc Audette), as well as her son, Paul Baelde (Laurie Yorke). Also left to mourn her loss are her grand-children Patrick (Natalie), Alex (Tasha), Elizabeth (Nathan) and Liam, as well as her great-grandchildren Aiden, Kane, Octavia, Aria, Blake and Charlie, and bonus great-grandchildren Skye, Johnny and Phoenix. Cloe was predeceased by her other siblings Desneiges, Loyola, Réal and Gérald, and bonus sibling Normand Tessier. Cloe leaves behind her other bonus siblings Robert (Bob) Tessier and Cheryl Macdonald, many nieces and nephews, as well as her younger sister and best friend Georgette Bergeron.

She was born on October 21st, 1933 to Florian Bergeron and Claire-Hilda (née Labelle), and raised In Val-Thérèse, where she would live for most of her life.  She finished high school two years early and had to complete an extra year in order to be old enough to study nursing at Marymount School of Nursing in Sudbury, graduating in 1954. She switched her aspirations from being a teacher to going into medicine after having been lovingly cared for at St. Joseph’s Hospital. The majority of her nursing career was spent in the Labour and Delivery department of the Sudbury General Hospital.  She was a progressive woman, owning a car and a lakefront property on which she built her own camp in her 20’s and waiting until she met the right man to get married in her late 30’s. For several years, she was President of Le Comité scout de Val-Thérèse. She also dedicated countless hours volunteering for Cercle missionnaire de la vallée. Her love for travel and gypsy soul took her to many places and afforded her many adventures with her parents, friends, sister and children. She traveled to most parts of Canada, to Europe, to many parts of the United States and to Cuba.

Cloe loved to cook, and bake, always making sure there were two desserts available on the kitchen counter for her family to enjoy, despite the fact that she worked full-time. She was an avid cross-country skier, could finish a crossword puzzle in minutes, and poured her heart into knitting and candle-making when time allowed. She ensured the vegetables and berries her dear husband grew could be enjoyed all year long by lovingly preserving them in jams, jellies, pickles and relishes.

Her loved ones describe Cloe as smart, resilient, cheerful, loving, soft, quick-witted, loyal, helpful and funny; a storyteller who was also the best listener one could ask for. She is already greatly missed.

A funeral mass will be held in Cloe’s honour at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 7th, 2025 at Ste Marguerite d’Youville Catholic Church in Val-Thérese (4290 Old Hwy 69), followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
