Auger, Viola Marie (Therrien)

March 3, 1947 - October 7, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Viola Auger (nee Therrien) on October 7, 2025, at the age of 78. She passed away peacefully at Maison McCulloch Hospice surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Chapleau, Ontario on March 3rd, 1947, Viola later met the love of her life Richard Auger while at a midway in New Sudbury. They quickly fell in love and got married in the summer of 1965. Together, they built a beautiful life with three children and recently celebrated their 60th anniversary this past summer. They made their home in Hanmer, Ontario, where Viola’s warmth filled every corner.

Viola was a devoted wife, mother, Mémère, and friend. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Richard, and her children Monique Auger (Gilles Sicord), and Patrick Auger. She was predeceased by her beloved son Richard Jr and daughter-in-law Therese Gibeault.

She was the proud Mémère of Stacey Mathieu, Joey Auger, Richard Bertin (Shelby Barnes), Kimberley Van Eyk (Ian Van Eyk), and cherished great-grandmother to Jacob, Aiden, Paisley, and Calvin.

Viola was the heart of her family. She loved hosting gatherings that brought everyone together, especially Christmas. Known for her delicious cooking and famous peanut butter pies, she made every occasion special. She enjoyed evenings spent at bingo or in her garage watching cars go by. She thoroughly enjoyed good company from great friends and neighbors. She looked forward to relaxing and floating in her pool on hot summer days. Viola’s love for country music filled her home. Her favourite song was “I will always love you” by Dolly Parton. She also adored her faithful dog Lizzie, who rarely left her side.

She is survived by her brother Patrick Therrien, sisters-in-law Beatrice Wilson and Lauretta Lacaille, and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly. She was predeceased by her parents Aime and Jeanne Therrien, her in-laws Paul and Theresa Auger, Rene Lariviere, and her sister-in-law Jane Therrien.

A celebration of life will be held at the Valley East Lions Club, 4611 St Joseph’s Street on Saturday, November 29th  from the hours of 10:00am-2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice in Vie’s memory would be greatly appreciated.

Viola will forever be remembered for her generosity, her laughter, and the love she gave so freely. Her legacy lives on in every life she touched. Like her favorite song said, “I will always love you,” and that love, like her spirit, will always remain.
