It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas Joseph William McKee, age 69 years of Azilda, ON on October 27, 2026 at Health Sciences North with loving family by his side. Born on November 24, 1956 in Sturgeon Falls, ON to Pauline McKee (Cloutier) and Lorne McKee (both predeceased). Beloved husband of Andrea (Fulin) sharing 21 years of marriage. Loving father of Anthony McKee (special friend Lorelai van Drunen). Cherished by his Aunt & Godmother, Margie Shalla (Gerard Michaud). Douglas will be missed by his siblings Frances Byrne (Brian) and John McKee (Patti Walton). He is predeceased by his siblings Lawrence, Keith, & Cheryl. Douglas will be missed by many nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews, & great-great nieces/nephews.
Douglas worked as a Machine Operator for Canadian Pacific Railway, proudly retiring after 29 years of service. During his employment with the company, he made valuable loving friendships that continued after retirement.
Douglas leaves behind a lifetime of love, kindness, and countless small moments that forever change the lives of everyone fortunate enough to have known him. Douglas, lovingly known as Doug or Dougie, was one of those extraordinary people. Doug found joy in life’s simplest pleasures—fishing, sports, music, family gatherings, and celebrating even the smallest accomplishments of those around him. He was the man who always had ice cream for the kids, a helping hand for a friend, and time to listen without judgment, no matter the hour. He was a gentle and kind spirit who quietly held so much together, never seeking recognition or expecting anything in return.
Above all, Doug’s whole world was his beloved wife, Andrea, and their son, Anthony. Andrea was his partner, his best friend, and the love of his life. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, family, and friendships that became family. Being Anthony’s Dad was one of Doug’s greatest joys. He took pride in every accomplishment, big or small, and loved his son beyond measure. The bond they shared was truly special. The kindness, strength, and unconditional love Doug gave throughout his life will forever live on in the man Anthony becomes.
During the difficult years of Doug’s illness, the strength of their family shone brighter than ever. Andrea and Anthony stood by him with unwavering love and devotion, surrounded by family and friends who helped carry them through the hardest moments. The love Doug had spent his lifetime giving so freely was returned to him when he needed it most. Doug’s journey has not ended. He has simply begun the next chapter of his spiritual journey—free from pain and forever surrounded by love. Doug leaves behind a beautiful legacy in Andrea, Anthony, his family, and the countless people whose lives were better simply because he was part of them.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service at this time. Douglas will be laid to rest in the family plot at Parklawn Cemetery in Sudbury, ON. A special celebration & feast to honour Doug will take place on October 27, 2027, marking the first anniversary of his spiritual journey. Further details will be shared later. Until then, honour Doug in the simplest ways. Take someone fishing. Give a child an ice cream. Watch a sporting event with a friend. Turn up the music. Be there when someone needs you. Celebrate the little victories. And above all, love your family with your whole heart. That is exactly how Douglas lived. His next journey has begun & his love will remain with us always.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the Sudbury Cancer Centre & the Palliative Care Team at HSN on 4 North for the care & compassion shown to Douglas, family, & friends during his stay. Donations may be made to the HSN Northern Cancer Fund by clicking here.
