Kenneth Jules Hortness (born March 27, 1947) passed away on October 8, 2026.
For several years, Ken was self-employed, building circular staircases in particular. In later years, he continued building staircases of all kinds while employed by master developers of large communities. His expertise in this area was unequalled.
He also loved woodworking of every kind — tables, chairs, coffee and occasional tables, handcrafted oak and walnut tabletop mushroom figurines, large free-standing mushroom sculptures, and wooden candlesticks, floor-size and smaller, in all shapes and sizes.
Ken loved gardening, growing vegetables and planting flowers of all kinds. He was also an animal lover, sharing his life with cats and dogs from beginning to end.
He was predeceased by his father, Arthur Newman Hortness (January 29, 1970); his mother, Simone Belanger Hortness (March 19, 2017), his brother-in-law, Gracijano Usic (January 10, 2005); and He is survived by his sister, Aileen Hortness Usic, and his nieces, Tanya Usic and Stefanie Usic-Taylor.
