(September 5, 1938 - April 29, 2026)
In memory of Bruce Brian Mayes, who passed away in Sudbury, Ontario with family by his side.
Loving husband to Donna Mayes (nee Kent, predeceased 2008). Loving father of son Mitchell (predeceased), David (Colleen), Merideth (Robert Spark). Grandpa to MacKenzie (David Manson).
Bruce was the eldest son of Diane Mayes (nee Strasbourg). Brother of Charles Mayes, Robert Mayes, and Diane Godin (all predeceased). He is survived by his sister Darlene Lapierre and Daniel ‘Danny’ Smith (Dianne).
Brother-in-law to Earl Kent (Stella, predeceased), Brian Kent (Coleen), Terry Kent (Carole) and sisters-in-law Laureen Wilson and Beverly Dever (Danny predeceased). Also missed by many nieces and nephews.
Bruce was a retired worker from INCO’s Creighton Mine, after which time he attended and graduated Cambrian College’s Business Administration Program. He was very proud of this accomplishment.
He started each day with a stop at the local Kwik Way store for his Sudbury Star, Toronto Star, and lottery tickets; then onward to the grocery stores for all the specials - never exceeding 40km/h!!!
Bruce enjoyed hearty family dinners at David and Colleen’s every Monday, followed by a swim. Thursdays were also special to him, going to the buffet at the Italian club with daughter-in-law Colleen and his only granddaughter, MacKenzie.
Bruce lived the last 10 years of his life with his daughter Merideth. Even from his apartment downstairs, you could always hear his TV tuned to CNN, the Smithsonian channel, History channel, or watching Game of Thrones. He was very comfortable in his space. Heat on high and the AC on cold!
Bruce is now reunited with wife Donna, son Mitchell, along with his furry friends Coco and Lucy. We will all miss him dearly. As per Bruce’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff of the A.R.C.C, St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre on Lasalle, and Amberwood Suites HSN site for caring for our father in his final months. As an animal lover, donations to the SPCA, Pet Save or any animal charity would be appreciated.
