Presenza, Antonio

Antonio (Nino) Presenza, aged 89, of Sudbury, passed away at his home on Monday, April 27, 2026. Born on December 14, 1936, in the charming town of Torino di Sangro, Italy, he was the cherished son of Giovanni and Maria Carmela (Memmo) Presenza. Nino was part of a loving family, growing up alongside his six brothers and sisters, all of whom were born in Italy.

Nino leaves behind his beloved wife, Susan Cameron, and his devoted son, Stefano Presenza. He was a proud grandfather to Sofia and Noach, who brought immense joy to his life. His family also includes his stepchildren, John Cameron (married to Marie-Line Godbout) and Cindy Babcock (married to Michael), as well as his step-grandchildren, Kara Cameron and Natasha Babcock. He is survived by his siblings, Guido Presenza (Toronto), Clara Presenza (Delaware), Adalino Presenza (Italy), and Velia Presenza (Italy), along with many nieces and nephews. Nino maintained a warm friendship with his first wife, Franca Nelli, and was also supported by his sisters-in-law, Frances Caldarelli (married to Jack (predeceased)) and Valerie Brill (married to Robert (predeceased), as well as his brother-in-law, Bob Weight (married to Lois). He was predeceased by his brother, Luigi Presenza (married to Maria Ingriselli), his sister, Pierina and his sister-in-law, Ann Zakem.

At a young age, Nino embarked on a journey to Canada, where he diligently mastered the English language and completed his education at Laurentian University, all while establishing himself in Sudbury. It was in this vibrant city that he met his first wife, Franca, also from Italy, with whom he welcomed their son, Stefano, in 1974. In 2009, Nino joyfully remarried Susan Weight Cameron, and together they embraced life’s journey. His two grandchildren, Sofia and Noach, were the radiant lights of his world, and even as his health waned, he lovingly prepared homemade pasta and meatballs for his family on a weekly basis.

Nino was a respected member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and dedicated many years to working with Sawchuk and Peach Architects. Among his professional achievements, he took great pride in designing the blueprints for Sudbury's original amphitheatre at Bell Park, as well as the plans for the Grotto. His commitment to community service was evident in his years of involvement with the Sudbury Multicultural Society. An avid reader, Nino immersed himself in literature about Philosophy, Economics, and Society. Though he identified as agnostic, he held a deep admiration for numerous aspects of the Catholic Church. Until his final days, he remained engaged with the world, diligently following current events and politics through his computer.

Nino was a truly loving husband and father, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and dedication to his family. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
