It is with profound love and great sadness that the family of John “Donald” Swan announce his passing on March 26, 2026, at the age of 86 years young, with his daughters by his side.
Don will be deeply missed by his daughters, Brenda Swan of Lively and Heather Swan of Orillia. He will also be fondly remembered by his daughter-in-law Cathy Swan (née Balkwell) of Washago, as well as his wife of 62 years, Diane Swan of Barrie.
He will be forever cherished by his seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom he loved dearly.
Don was a hardworking and devoted family man who earned the respect of many throughout his life. His careers were as varied as they were admirable—working as a Welder, Firefighter, Long-haul truck driver, Mechanic, then retiring for good as a Brinks armoured guard in Barrie.
He found great joy in the simple pleasures of life: fishing, Volkswagen Beetles, traveling, Elvis and country music, and many cherished years camping at the Bear’s Den. He loved to barbecue especially steaks and homemade burgers and of course enjoyed a cold one while at the grill. In his later years, he continued to enjoy camp life and “tinkering” in the shop after moving north, where he spent his last five years with his daughter Brenda and Lorne (predeceased).
As we take time to celebrate his incredible journey and the love and wisdom he shared with us all, remember to never let your gas tank drop below half, always have WD-40 handy, and “if you’re going to do something, do it right or don’t do it at all…”
In keeping with Don’s wishes, no funeral or service arrangements will be made. Cremation to take place. The family would like everyone to celebrate and honour him in their own special way.
A special thank you goes out to the loving and caring staff at Countryside Extendicare, notably the original Falconbridge staff.
