Thompson, George

In Loving Memory of George Windle Thompson

Born in Val D’Amour, New Brunswick, on July 15th, 1939, who passed peacefully on September 20th, 2025, at the age of 86, at Health Sciences North in Sudbury, Ontario.

George was a devoted and loving husband to Wendalline “Wendy” (née Murray), sharing 61 treasured years of marriage. He was a loving father to Joni Dee (Richard) and Janis-Ann (Ryan), and a proud grandfather to Devon and Kara.

The son of the late Raymond and Rita Thompson (née LeBlanc), George was predeceased by his brothers Erven, Walter, and Charles. He is lovingly remembered by his siblings: Chester (Carol), Merina Wright (Jack), Rachel Luchek (Ken), Jean McFetridge (Bob), Gayle Grenier (Merrill), Judy McElroy, and Ruth Moynagh (Paul). He will be deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

George’s life was defined by his steadfast work ethic, generous spirit, and quiet strength. His faith was a constant source of comfort, with Sunday worship remaining a cherished part of his weekly routine. For 31 years, he proudly served at the INCO Levack mine, retiring in December 1991 with deep pride in both his work and the community he helped shape.

George found joy in life’s simple pleasures—playing cards, cheering on hockey and baseball games, and sharing laughter-filled stories with family and friends whose company he treasured. Ever industrious, he was always immersed in one (or often several) projects, and he never passed up the chance to enjoy a good hotdog cooked over an open fire.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who supported George with compassion and care.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 26th, 2025, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Trevi Restaurant, 1837 Lasalle Boulevard, Sudbury.

George will be laid to rest at the Civic Memorial Cemetery Niche Wall, Row 6, Side B. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sudbury Food Bank or the Pregnancy and Infant Care Food Bank would be gratefully appreciated.
