Chrétien, Bernard “Bernie”

In Loving Memory of Bernard Chrétien

April 24, 1958 – July 14, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bernard Chrétien, who left us peacefully on July 14th, 2025, at the age of 67.

Bernard was the treasured son of the late Alfred Urbain Chrétien and late Violet (nee Riopel). He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Monique Chrétien and his children: Lisa, Michael (Natalie), Nicole, Justin (Dawn), Renee (Skylar), and Isaiah. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Alisa, Riley, Kaitlyn, Corey, Rider, Nicholas, Mia, Niko, Hudson, and cherished great-grandfather to Carlee. He is survived by his siblings George (Irene), Alda, Denise (Maurice), William (Joanne), Ida, Irene, Helene, Maurice (Denise), Lise, and is predeceased by his brother Ben. He will be deeply missed by many nephews, cousins, and friends — all of whom will remember his laughter, his strength, and the sound of his guitar drifting through the air.

Born in St-Charles, Bernie made his home in Minnow Lake for the past 20 years. A skilled carpenter by trade, he built more than just homes — he built memories, family traditions, and a life filled with laughter, love, and music.

Bernie was a true “top dog” — a man with a strong spirit, a warm heart, and an unforgettable presence. He lived and breathed music, especially old classic rock. Nothing made him light up more than picking up his guitar and singing his favourite tunes. To know him was to hear him sing.

As the lyrics of one of his favourite songs go:

“Oh, give me the beat boys and free my soul I wanna get lost in your rock 'n' roll and drift away.”

A celebration of Bernard’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 76 in Minnow Lake at 1553 Weller St on Saturday, July 26th from 1-5pm - cash bar only. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to play a song that reminds you of him, raise a glass, and remember the good times.
