Strum, Janet

November 5, 1967 - June 5, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Janet Strum (MacInnis) of Garson on June 5, 2025. She stayed strong until the very end, after a courageous, hard-fought battle with cancer. Janet passed away peacefully with her loved ones by her side, and in her heart.

The beloved wife of William (Bill) Strum, cherished mother of Janel Strum (Derek), adored daughter of George MacInnis (predeceased 2013) and Evelyn MacInnis (predeceased 2011), loving sister of Anne Marie MacInnis (predeceased 2023), George MacInnis (Lori), and Heather Castonguay (Rene). Treasured Mema to her fur babies Winnie and Grizzly. She will be missed dearly by many nieces and nephews, a special Auntie to many. She joins her nephew Travis (predeceased 2001). Sister-in-law to Dawn Hollingshead (Ken), Jane Smith (Lennie), Elaine Pinnell (Glen), Hollis Gas (Joe), and Mike Strum. Sister by heart to many special friends that have supported her through this journey.

Janet was a devoted health care aide for 30 years, beginning her career at the Garson Manor and transferring to Finlandia Village. She truly loved her career, treating each resident as though they were her own family. She will be forever loved and missed by her husband Bill who absolutely adored her. They had a wonderful 29 years of marriage together and made a lifetime of memories. She leaves behind her daughter Janel, to whom she was not only a devoted mother, but a best friend as well.

Janet enjoyed the simple things in life. She loved to relax with her family and loved ones in her jammies, watching a good show (especially Survivor). She enjoyed spending time in the yard puttering in her garden, a nice BBQ meal, and just being with her family - that’s where she was at peace. She will always be remembered for her kindness and peaceful energy that she brought wherever she went.

A special thank you to her Finlandia family, the Northeast Cancer Centre, the team on Four North at Health Sciences North, and the staff of Maison McCulloch Hospice, where she was able to live out her final days with dignity and the utmost respect.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Maison McCulloch Hospice. A Celebration of Janet’s Life will be held at a later date.

Fly with the dragonflies now. Forever would have been too short. We will love and miss you forever.
