Heffern, Margaret Adeline

It is with profound heartbreak that we announce the passing of Margaret Adeline Heffern (née Picard) on Wednesday, May 28th, 2025 at the age of 76 at Health Sciences North, Sudbury.

Beloved wife of Arthur Franklin “Frank” Heffern (predeceased) of Flat Island, Newfoundland. Cherished mother of Edith Sherry Angela Heffern (husband Terry Karchie), Peter Franklyn Scott Heffern, and Clara Elizabeth “Beth” Heffern. Adored grandmother to Roman Desrosiers (Jökull), Dryden Desrosiers (Leigh), Hunter Gaudrault, and Sithia “Thia” Gaudrault.

Dear daughter of Peter Picard and Edith Picard (née Lafleur), both predeceased, and loved sister to Stan Picard predeceased (Marion), Gladys Harder (Vern), both predeceased, Marilyn Robillard (Jerry), both predeceased, Garfield Picard (Sherry), both predeceased, Gayle Mathieson (John), Doreen Denault (Jack predeceased), Raymond Picard (Lise), and Keith Picard (Joyce).

She will also be sadly missed by her best friends Miranda Burton and Paulette Portier, as well as her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and especially by Marcia, Karen, and Rena of Winnipeg.

Born in Sudbury, Margaret grew up in Levack with her loved siblings, where she met and married the love of her life. Margaret enjoyed hummingbird watching and berry picking but gardening and wild mushroom hunting were her passions. Her fondest memories were from camp as a child and young adult, having shared her love of camp with her husband and children. More recently, she was grateful to relax and de-stress with special friends on St. Joseph’s Island. She was always at peace when visiting camp there, though the time was always too short.

Margaret spent as much time as she could with her four grandchildren, whom she adored. Margaret was always meant to be a grandmother, and once said that they were the greatest reward for her. She spent as much time as she could with the grandkids, and forged an especially strong bond with the younger two, though she loved and cherished them all, and they will sorely miss her. There will be no visitation, and a celebration of life will be held in July. Donations to the Huntington Society of Canada or Tourette Canada would be appreciated. The family wishes to thank Health Sciences North for their compassionate care.
