Marie-Reine Houle, age 79, passed away peacefully on May 4th, 2025, surrounded by her family. A beautiful, gentle soul, Marie touched the lives of so many with her love, kindness, and quiet strength.
Born on October 26th, 1945, in Sudbury, Marie was a woman devoted to her family who lived each day with grace and deep appreciation for life’s simplest pleasures.
She married Henry Houle on October 3rd, 1964, in Minnow Lake and together, they built a beautiful life. Marie was an avid reader with a special fondness for mystery novels, and her patience made her a natural at puzzles—and the undisputed family Boggle champion.
Her love for travel took her to Florida, where she cherished walking along the Jetty, beach days with family, and ice cream from Bob’s on the way home. Yet one of her greatest joys was spending time at the family cottage on the French River. There, she found peace in nature and joy in the company of loved ones, whether out on a boat ride or sitting with Henry on the patio, simply taking in the view.
Eldest daughter of the late Herman Theodore Jones of Field and Marie-Reine (Gagné) Jones of Sudbury. Predeceased by her brothers Armand Jones (Linda) and Roland Jones (Sharron), and her sisters MaryAnn (Jones) Desloges (Norm) and Jane (Jones) Charbonneau (Claude). She will be fondly remembered by her sisters Lauraine (Jones) Rheault (Allan) and Rose (Jones) Desloges (Don). Marie is lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, who treasured her warmth, patience, and unwavering care.
Marie is lovingly remembered by Daniel, Julie, Zach, and Mathieu, who will carry on her legacy by living as she did: with kindness, gratitude, and love. Marie is now reunited with her beloved husband and their son Marc Houle (predeceased), a reunion that brings comfort to those she leaves behind.
The family extends a truly heartfelt thank you to Dr. Mailloux and Dr. Singh, both of HSN Hospital, as well as the Maison McCulloch Hospice for their compassionate care during Marie’s final days.
Dan, Julie, and the boys kindly request that donations in memory of Marie be made to the Maison McCulloch Hospice in Sudbury.
At Marie’s request, cremation has taken place. A funeral service for Marie-Reine will be held on Saturday, May 24th, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Paroisse Ste-Marguerite d’Youville (4290 Old Hwy 69, Val Thérèse). The family will arrive early to greet guests prior to the service. Following the service, you are warmly invited to join the family for lunch in the church hall.
May you find strength and solace in the memories you shared together. Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your mom.
