It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Jeanine (nee Barbe) Kuik on Wednesday August 11th, 2021 at McCulloch Hospice surrounded by her family. Jeanine was born in 1934 in Creighton, Ontario to the late Albert and Helen (nee Gauthier) Barbe. Beloved sister to Marie (Larry) Gonnella and Albert “Merk” (Liz, deceased) Barbe. Jeanine grew up surrounded by a large loving family with numerous Aunts, Uncles, and cousins from the communities of Creighton and Coniston. In 1962 she married Juergen Kuik (Oldenburg, Germany) and began their life together till Juergen’s passing in 2009. They were blessed with 2 children, Christine (Corey Houle) and Jonathon (Diane) and precious grandchildren, Thomas, Ryan, Chloe and Megan. Perhaps her favourite role was that of being “Meme” to her grandkids. Laughter and stories of growing up in Creighton, bridge, family time together and cottage life on Lake Nipissing were core elements throughout her life. Her laugh and gift of humour was legendary. Her faith was her guiding spirit. She was involved and connected to numerous communities including the Canadian Hearing Society where she was a Board member for 25 years and instrumental in establishing the Resource Centre for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Sudbury. Wherever she went, Jeanine was embraced and loved for her down to earth nature, warmth, and sense of humour. She will be dearly missed but not forgotten by her family, including her cherished nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and many other cousins from the Gonnella, Barbe, Gauthier and Faoro families. She was blessed to have so many special friends, including her lifetime friend Sally (Tom, deceased) Davies. Her family would like to thank the dedicated care teams at the Sudbury Cancer Centre, Princess Margaret Hospital and Maison McCulloch Hospice. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, August 31st, 2021 at 11am at St Patrick’s Parish, 39 Walford Road, Sudbury. Due to COVID, double vaccinations, masks and social distancing are mandatory. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made directly to Maison McCulloch Hospice in Sudbury https://maisonsudburyhospice.org/donate/.
The family of Jean-Louis and Sheila Barbe wanted to send our prayers and hugs to Jeanine’s family. She was a dear friend of our parents. Together, they made many fabulous memories together. Laughter was never absent when they were together and their stories have left an imprint on all three of us girls!
May her memories live on in your lives!

I am sorry for your loss. As pastor I enjoyed her humor while she worked at St. Patrick parish office. As she had many stories to tell I hope you remember them.
When you can her laughter in difficult times offset sorrow.
Fr. Phil, Fr Don, and I were helped by her at St. Patrick Parish.

Christine and Jonathon,
We are so sad to hear of your mother’s passing. She was a wonderful person and we cherished the time that we spent with her. The photo in her obituary is perfect … it is Jeanine as we remember her … happy, smiling, full of life.
We will miss her.
