Somerset, John Walter

In loving memory of John Walter Somerset who passed away at the age of 76 on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Maison McCulloch Hospice. He is survived by his loving wife Carol Somerset. Beloved father of Mary (Chris) and John (Louise). Cherished grandfather of Josh, Bailey, Ali, Claire, Reece, Megan and Matt. Dear brother of Robert (Edith predeceased), William (Susan), James (Netta predeceased) and brother-in-law Lawrence McDonald. Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and friends. Born in Derbyshire, England to the late Jack and Ethel Somerset. John and Carol immigrated to Canada in 1964. Residing for many years in Blezard Valley, where he enjoyed the outdoors, cycling, cross country skiing and practicing his love of photography. He also had a fondness for music especially live performances. John proudly retired from INCO in 1999 after 29 years of service in general engineering where he made many good friends. For many years, John and Carol enjoyed traveling and discovering new places. He had a great love for animals and will be missed by his canine companion Ozzie the Pug. As per John’s request there will be no visitation or service. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Sudbury or Maison McCulloch Hospice would be greatly appreciated.

    We are so sorry to hear of John’s passing. His sense of humour and love of life will always come to
    mind when we think of him. Memories over the years of dog shows and kennel club events still bring smiles to our faces.   5. Hi Carol, I was very sad to hear of John’s passing. In the short time I lived at the apartment building I was really happy to see John on his walks with Ozzie and then have the opportunity for a brief chat. I came to look forward to those talks and John’s smile and zest for life. Please accept my condolences at this difficult time.
