Hurley, Lawrence

It is with profound sadness the family of Lawrence Hurley announce his peaceful passing at home in Dowling on August 11, 2020 at the tender age of 84 years. Beloved husband of 65 years to Joan Hurley. Together they raised seven children, Lorna (Marc) Pat (Rita) Wanda (Jim), Maureen, Joanne (Eric), Belinda (Richard), Robert “Bob” (Caroline), 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. Born in Cape Breton Island, he worked in the Nova Scotia coal mines for 5 years. As newlyweds Lawrence and Joan moves to Ontario and settled in Dowling where Lawrence worked for INCO Levack Mine for 35 1/2 years as a “proud jack leg miner”. True to his “fightin Irish spirit” he fought his illness with courage and sheer determination, and we couldn’t be more proud of our dad. As per his wishes there will be no service or visitation. Cremation has taken place. Lawrence will be laid to rest at his beloved Cape Breton Island. The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the health professionals HSN, CCAC, Bayshore Nursing Staff, Dr. Chenard, Onaping Falls Lions Club and all the wonderful friends who provided support throughout dad’s journey. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society Sudbury would be appreciated. “Put the pedal to the metal and fly dad”.
