In Loving Memory of Al Hooson 81 years, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Health Sciences North. Loving father of Cathy Marcotte (Dan) and Gerry Hooson (Kimberly) of London ON. Cherished grandfather of Alicia Woods (Ian), Amber Wilson (David), Andrew Marcotte (Stephanie), Braden Fickling (Katie), Shelden Fickling and great grandfather of Madyson, Connor, Keegan, Ava and Kennedy. Dear brother of Robert (Pat) of Hamilton, ON., Charles Stafford (Sue) of Squamish, BC., Margaret McLees (Dale) and Judy Lapierre (Michel). Sadly missed by his special friends Dave and Ruth Pritchard, Cheryl Wills, Marilyn (Chris) and many nieces and nephews. Al is predeceased by his parents Gerry and Cathie (nee Stafford) Hooson, his sister Joan Winch and his son-in-law Paul Marcotte. In his younger years, he was employed at Falconbridge Nickel Mines, then moved on to the Ministry of Corrections where he worked as a Correctional Officer at Burwash Correctional Facility, then the Sudbury District Jail where he became the Superintendent until he retired in 1993. Al spent his retirement years on the Key River where he enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Britt. The family would like to thank the staff on the fourth floor of Health Sciences North as well as Dr. Witkowski, Dr. Symington, Dr. Singh and Dr. Sheraton for their compassion. At Al’s request, there will be a private Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Maison McCulloch Hospice would be greatly appreciated.

6 Condolences

  1. I met Al at Key River several years ago and we became friends. We exchanged emails for almost 10 years during which time, his wit and sense of humor was enjoyed by all in my ‘Alias’ file. I have missed him for several months, and now know why.
My condolences to his family and friends.
I pray for God’s blessings for his soul.

  4. It was a little over 30 years ago when Al hired me to begin my career as a civil servant. I look back at our times at the Sudbury Jail, Regional Office, adventures on the road and lunches at the Caruso club as the good old days and will always bring back great memories.

    Rest In Peace Al
