DORMER, William Edward

DORMER, William Edward – In loving memory of William “Bill” Dormer, 86 years who passed away peacefully at home with dignity, surrounded by the love of his family on Wednesday, March 15, 2017. Born and raised in Peterborough, Bill moved to Sudbury in 1956 to begin his teaching career at the Sudbury Mining and Technical School. Here he met and married his cherished wife of 60 years, Claire (Mulligan) of Sudbury. In 1962, Claire and Bill and their children moved to Espanola where Bill was the Technical Director at the Espanola High School until his retirement in 1985. Bill loved his summers at camp on beautiful Birch Lake, and in retirement he enjoyed travelling and winters in Florida with Claire and relished the camaraderie and competition of curling and golfing, both in Espanola and Sudbury, when he and Claire returned in 1992. Bill has left a legacy of unconditional love with his family and friends who will deeply miss him. He will be especially and forever missed by Claire and their four children, Jeff (wife, Sharon), Denis, Sheila (Marshall) Mendes and Marion Russell (husband, Kyle); grandchildren Cody (Sarah), Kylee and James, Jorden, Jessica and Morgan, Taylor (Carolyn) and Keegan (Haley) and Sabrina; and great-grandchildren Riordan and Ashton. He will be fondly remembered by his niece and nephews, Jan, David and Tod McNab, and their families.
The family would like to thank family physician, Dr. Cudmore and Gigi for their truly exceptional and compassionate care, cardiologists Dr. Wong and Dr. Michaud and the outstanding teams in the Emergency Department and on the Cardiology Unit at Health Sciences North, who cared for Bill with extraordinary kindness. Extra special thanks to Cathy Heffernan and Karen Sheppard who treated Bill like he was their own Dad. You each know the difference you made in his life. At Bill’s request, there will be no visitation. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Hope Church, 159 Brennan Road Sudbury on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 1: 30 p.m. Donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice Building Expansion Fund would be appreciated.
