It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gilles Laurent Charron, 72 years, who lost his life after a short and courageous battle with cancer with his loving family by his side at Health Sciences North on Friday, March 18, 2016. Beloved husband of 36 years to Elise Charron (Sigouin). Loving father of Debbie-Lynn Goodwin (Shawn), Daniel Sigouin (Lise), Derrick Charron (Sandra), Mark Charron (Emily) and Pierre Charron. Gilles was predeceased by his first wife Barbara Somers. Born in Rouyn-Noranda, he was the son of the late Lorenzo and Jeanne d’Arc (Faubert) Charron. Cherished Pepere to Brett, Cameron, Nicholas, Tristan, Mathieu, Aubry and Jazmine. Dear brother of Roger (predeceased) (Nicole), Monique Lauzon (Raymond) and Michel (Claire). He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. Gilles was a hard worker his whole life. Starting at Macassa Mine in 1961 where he worked for 5 years which led him to Falconbridge in 1967 where he worked for 32 years retiring in 1999. In 2005 Gilles became an instructor/trainer for Norcat in Onaping, ON. He was a great mentor and was well loved by his trainees for his captivating humour. Gilles had many loves in his life, first and foremost his family. He was an avid hunter, an excellent pool player and a great golfer who loved to travel with his wife Elise. He was also a member of the Onaping Golden Age Club and a proud holder of a Third Degree for the Knights of Columbus.
The family would like to send a special thank you to all the Palliative Care Nurses at Health Sciences North. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Bartholomew’s Church, 30 Church Street, Levack on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to join with the family for a time of reception following the services in the Church Hall.
